What to expect during your private lessons

All students work on developing tone and technique, sight-reading, selections from the flute repertoire, and musicianship skills each lesson.

Students are provided opportunities to perform during studio classes, recitals, masterclasses, and competitions.

Private students are also encouraged to attend community concerts, and recitals throughout the year

Intermediate and Advanced Flutists

Through a systematic regimen, intermediate and advanced students, of all ages, encounter increasingly demanding repertoire while building techniques. With time and patience, students start to go beyond the instrumentalist into a true musician.

Students of this level are preparing for Solo and Ensemble festivals, regional competitions, progressing in their school program, and preparing for college auditions.

Students in this level can expect to work on:

  • All Major, minor, and chromatic scales and arpeggiated patterns through the gamut of the flute in sixteenth notes, triplets, and interesting rhythmic configurations at crochet - 104 bpm and up

  • Get comfortable with the third octave range of the flute and robust lower register with ease

  • Precise Intonation

  • Sight-read with up to 30 second prep time

  • Technically demanding etudes geared toward their development

  • The flute repertoire from the Baroque to modern music

  • Transposition in all keys

  • Basic music theory and musicianship concepts
